Home of Oak Ridge, Clinton, and Rocky Top, Anderson County is situated just to the northwest of Knox County and offers waterfront options along Melton Hill Lake, Norris Lake and the Clinch River.
Blount County's largest city is Maryville, and is also home to Friendsville, Alcoa, Louisville and Vonore. If you're seeking property on or near the water in Blount County, you might find options around Fort Loudoun or Chilhowee Lakes, as well as the Little River and the Little Tennessee River.
With Jacksboro as its County Seat, Campbell County is home to parts of Norris Lake, as well as Davis Creek, Big Creek and Cove Creek. Other towns in this area include La Follette, Caryville, and Jellico.
Located at the northern border of Tennessee, Claiborne County is home to the cities of Harrogate, New Tazewell and Cumberland Gap.
West of Knox County is Cumberland County, home to the city of Crossville. A popular destination for retirees or folks seeking a quieter way of life, this area is the site of The Tennessee Divide, where the watersheds of the Cumberland River and the Tennessee River meet.
Running along the northwest of Grainger County is the Clinch River, and to the southeast you will find the Holston River and Cherokee Lake. Rutledge is the County Seat and other cities include Blaine and Bean Station.
Dandridge is the County Seat and other cities include Morristown, Jefferson City and New Market. According the US Census Bureau, this county includes 40 square miles of water, with two artificial lakes: Douglas Lake and Cherokee Lake.
Knox County is home to Knoxville and has no shortage of options for life on or near the water. With the Holston and French Broad Rivers joining to form the Tennessee River in the east part of the county, an area known as "Forks-of-the-River" was formed. Other waterfront and water-adjacent options can be found around Fort Loudon Lake.
Loudon County lies to the southwest of Knox County and includes Loudon, Greenback and Lenoir City. The Little Tennessee River joins the Tennessee River at Lenoir City and the lower part of the Tennessee River is part of Tellico Lake.
There's also Fort Loudon Lake, created by the Fort Loudoun Dam, and Watts Bar Lake.
Along the southeast border of Tennessee lies Monroe County, home to Madisonville, Sweetwater and Tellico Plains. The Little Tennessee River flows along the county's border and in this section of the river are three artificial lakes: Tellico Lake, Chilhowee Lake, and Calderwood Lake. This area also includes the Bald River, and Sweetwater Creek.
Rhea County is home to the communities of Dayton, Spring City and Graysville. The eastern border of the county is formed by The Tennessee River and the county's northern border is formed by Whites Creek, a tributary of the Tennessee River. Lakes in the area include Watts Bar and Chickamauga.
Kingston, Harriman and Rockwood are three of the communities in beautiful Roane County. Three rivers, which are mostly part of Watts Bar Lake pass through the area. These are the Tennessee River, the Clinch River, and the Emory River.
In addition to being home to Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and Sevierville, not to mention the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Sevier County also boasts lovely waterways, including the French Broad River, which is part of Douglas Lake. The three forks of the Little Pigeon River (East, Middle, & West) flow northward from the Smokies.
North of Knox County is Union County, with the communities of Luttrell, Maynardville and Plainview. The primary waterway in this area is the Clinch River, which is also part of Norris Lake. There's also Big Ridge Lake, created by Big Ridge Dam.
